If Al Gore won in 2000 and 2004, would Donald Trump have won the 2008 GOP presidential nomination and general election on a nativist platform?

I know that we are not supposed to discuss events from the last 25 years here. Indeed, I have generally respected this rule and will continue to do so. Still, given the importance of this topic, I figured that I might as well make an exception to this rule this once. Thus, here goes:

If Al Gore would have won the U.S. Presidency in 2000 and 2004 (if Gore wins in 2000, he'll obviously run again in 2004), would Donald Trump have won the 2008 Republican (GOP) presidential nomination and general election on a xenophobic, nativist, White nationalist-lite platform?

Basically, I am trying to figure out if eight years of a President Gore could have caused the GOP to nominate a nativist and xenophobe such as Donald Trump just like eight years of President Obama caused in our TL. Also, if Donald Trump would have won the 2008 Republican (GOP) presidential nomination in this TL, would he have also won the general election that year?

Any thoughts on all of this?

I'll take the chance of running afoul of the BoP for this, just to point
out that that's an impossibility.

#1, no Black guy in the WH to stoke the racial fires (whether one blames
Obama for always taking the Black man's side against any
possibly-infringing white, even when the Black guy was a would-be
cop-killer; or blames the whites for ODS, doesn't matter; willingness to
openly DISPLAY racial animus was greater in the early XXI than in 1983,
but substantially less than even OTL-2010, let alone 2016. Further, the
Internet is a thing, and even 4Chan is a thing, but not to an extent
where the closeted bigots are going to be in position to start realising
there are more of them than of 'too-tolerant' types).

#2, but probably more importantly, Trump was still a registered D in
OTL-2008, even donating to Hilary's campaign [his 2009-2012 being one of
the most visible CASES of ODS], so that largely rules out a run as a
Republican (since it was Birtherism that drew him to the Rs, he's
unlikely to have changed party ahead of schedule). And ain't no way that
the *Dems* would have even considered nominating him (not to mention
that HW Bush is the only winning candidate in the past 70 years to have
shared his party with the outgoing President). We'll put aside that his
racism wouldn't have been apparent; he *was* on record already as
stating that the US needed a single strongman, not a squabbling
democracy. That's a deal-breaker for all but a Bernie-Bro style Tankie.
So he can't run as the one that _might_ (but probably wouldn't yet
actually) have nominated him, and he's basically going to become
anathema to his registered party as his views on authoritarianism start
becoming clear.

You've just shown one of the few cases where it would take ASBs to get
someone elected, just a few years before they actually _will_ be elected
in OTL. Congratulations. :-P

(And I hope there's no way to get me banned and that I don't get plonked
by the entire group for violating BoP.)
