Discussion:
Another ASB scenario: India Downunder, or, "Great or Not, the Game is Different"

ASBs teleport the Indian subcontinent, and enough of southern and western Tibet to include the full watersheds of the subcontinents rivers, to its antipodes, in 1815, right after Napoleon is taken to St. Helena

It looks like this: Loading Image...

The Indian subcontinent is already the big jewel in Britain's Crown, dominated if not completely conquered.

However, with its new location in the southeastern Pacific, the steps involved in protecting "the route to India" are completely different. A huge motive for conflict with Russia is eliminated, while at the same time, with India in the western hemisphere, Britain is going to be more interested in that hemisphere, and might regard control of Panama or Patagonia as imperative.

In the meantime, with India sundered from Asia, Britain does not have a base so close to China, so I think the opium wars, and indeed the convenience of mass opium exportation to China, won't happen the same way as OTL.

How do geopolitics evolve over the next century with this unreal new geographic reality?

wouldn't the countries of South America consider India an ideal target
for Colonization and wouldn't the now huge coastline of Russia encourage
a large shipbuilding and fishing industry?

Interactions between India and South America could be quite interesting but I don't think any of the South American states have the capacity to conquer British ruled India or any of its still independent native states in 1815.

Also, the Spanish-American colonies at this time are just beginning their wars for independence. They need to properly win that before they can try to conquer anyone.

In OTL, Britain was supportive of the independence of the Spanish-American colonies. In this TL, if it chose to be, it could be even more helpful, given its proximity to the Spanish Loyalist holdout of Peru. Of course, Britain's attitude towards Spanish-American independence could change in this new situation.

As far as Indian interactions with the Americas go, however, I could see Indian laborers be a popular choice in Latin America when slavery ends, and them filling many laboring roles played by Chinese in OTL. Maybe Indians would become more numerically prominent in Callifornia and the Rockies than the Chinese. Especially as alot of the details of Chinese history (like Hong Kong) will probably change.

a large shipbuilding and fishing industry?
On this map, Russia has not gained any coastline. Once it absorbs Central Asia it can proceed until it gets a coastline in Baluchistan or Persia. But it will still take *alot* of infrastructure development for a Russian coast on the Indian Ocean to become a powerhouse of industrial shipbuilding.

At the same time, the with the probability of less rivalry with Britain and harassment by Britain, Russia could eventually get there and develop it over time.

What do you think would change about Western interaction with China and Japan under this scenario?

One assumes the ASB make the "new coastline" take a reasonable slope
to the sea as this area is roughly 1000' above sea level or more and
thus would be a fairly high clifff! (Not to mention the foothills
immediately adjoining Nepal which of course are much higher than that.

Perhaps the ASB does that, or there are huge-ass cliffs for a good part of the Asian and Indian coasts, which have no economic purpose. I don't know how long it would take erosion to slope down to usable beaches and harbors.
